If you’ve ever felt buried under a mountain of survey comments, you’re not alone. Reading through dozens (or even hundreds) of responses can be overwhelming. That’s where the Players 1st AI Assistant (beta) steps in. Think of it as your shortcut to turning raw feedback into clear, actionable insights about your golf club.
Here’s how it works: once your survey has more than 50 responses, the AI Assistant scans through open-ended comments, organizes the data, and highlights the biggest themes. Instead of guessing what matters most to members, you get a focused snapshot of where to put your time and energy to make the biggest impact.
The catch? To get the best results, you need to ask the right questions. That’s where the art of prompting comes in. A well-crafted prompt can be the difference between a vague answer and a crystal-clear plan of action. And the best part: mastering prompts is simple, but it can deliver big results.
Right now, the assistant is in beta, which means it’s starting with open-comment feedback only. But we’re already working on expanding its capabilities to include dashboards and survey scores in the future. In other words, this is just the beginning – there’s a lot more to come.
How to Write Prompts That Actually Work
When you’re prompting AI, remember you’re essentially talking to a computer. Small mistakes, ambiguities, or unclear instructions can easily lead to responses that you aren't seeking.
- Start with your objective
- Start with a clear goal. Do you want facts, fresh ideas or problem-solving?
- Be specific. Instead of “What do members think?” clarify: “What feedback do members give most often about our clubhouse services?”.
- Be clear and specific
- Avoid vague prompts that leave too much room for interpretation. Clearer questions get clearer answers.
- Instead of asking, “How’s my golf course doing?” try something like: “What are the top three areas members mention for improvement – specifically around course conditions, clubhouse, or membership pricing?”.
- Provide the right amount of context
- Give the AI enough background to understand the scenario but don’t overload it with irrelevant details. This balance guides the AI towards answers that are both relevant and actionable.
- Instead of saying, “What do people think?” frame it as: “Based on recent survey comments, what are the most common themes members raise about weekend availability?”.
- Match the survey language
- If your surveys are in Spanish, ask your questions in Spanish as well. This avoids translation issues that can distort meaning, tone, or nuance.
- A comment about “precio de membresía” (membership pricing) may lose nuance if translated. Staying consistent helps the AI interpret responses accurately.
- Ask follow-up questions
- Treat the interaction like a conversation, not a one-and-done request. Every follow-up gets you closer to real insights.
- If the AI lists three areas of improvement, follow up with “Which could boost member satisfaction most?”.
- Experiment and iterate
- Your first prompt won’t always deliver exactly what you need, but each iteration gets you closer to the results you want.
- For example, if you asked “What do members want improved?” and got a vague answer, try again with: “Can you rank the top three improvements mentioned most often by frequency?”.
- Evaluate and adapt
- Don’t settle for the first answer. Ensure it clearly helps your goals and tweak your approach if it doesn’t.
- If the AI gives general ideas but you want data-driven insights, try: “Can you summarize the top three concerns using actual member quotes from the survey?”
If all of this feels a bit overwhelming, don’t stress! Player 1st's AI Assistant (beta) also has built in prompts to help you on your way to gain actionable knowledge and insights. But remember, practice really does make perfect!
